Tooth Discolouration

There are many reasons you may notice tooth discolouration. The foods and drinks we consume can cause staining on the teeth – these are usually superficial and can be fixed with regular dental visits and reducing consumption of products which stain your teeth (coffee, tea, red wine etc).

As we get older our teeth tend to get a bit darker as well – options to improve the appearance of front teeth include crowns or veneers or teeth whitening.

Staining can also be a result of decay in a tooth or staining of an old filling – this will need to be addressed by your dentist. Decay can show up as yellowish /brown or even black shadows in your teeth.

Trauma to teeth can also cause discolouration of a tooth often with greyness.

If you notice any discolouration on your teeth it would be best to make an appointment to see your dentist.
